Dos cuestiones actuales sometidas a debate son: en primer lugar, establecer la adecuada dimensión del empleo público, con independencia de cual sea la contribución del sector público al desarrollo de la economía, entendiendo que la búsqueda de la eficiencia y la productividad se puede conseguir con diferentes volúmenes de recursos humanos y, en segundo lugar, la necesidad de garantizar el crecimiento económico y valorar en qué medida el peso del sector público en la economía puede contribuir positivamente al mismo. Este trabajo pretende hacer una breve aproximación a ambas cuestiones, especialmente en referencia a España, aunque con elementos comparativos con otras economías. There are two questions that are currently being debated: firstly, the question of determining the size of the public sector, regardless of what its contribution to the development of the economy might be and understanding that efficiency and productivity can be achieved through different volumes of human resources; and, secondly, the question of guaranteeing economic growth and assessing to what extent the public sector can contribute positively to this goal. This work intends to bring a short introduction about these two questions, referring specifically to the Spanish case, and with comparisons with other economies.
