El Impuesto municipal sobre Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica es un tributo directo que grava la titularidad de vehículos aptos para circular por las vías públicas. Sin embargo, la Comunidad Autónoma de Cataluña y la Comunidad Valenciana han creado el Impuesto sobre las emisiones de dióxido de carbono de los vehículos de tracción mecánica, un gravamen directo de las emisiones potenciales de cada vehículo, por lo que se plantea ahora el futuro del tributo municipal.
